What do you do when something goes wrong? You have a long run planned but you’re fatigued. You have a workout but your legs are flat or the weather is creating difficulties.
Do you try to push through for the full distance or try to hit splits even in bad conditions or when not feeling fully on?
While it sounds tough and social media influencers get a lot of likes for it, in the real world, “toughing it out” and striving for perfection isn’t always the best.
The bottom line is nobody is perfect and neither is the world we live in. If you expect perfection, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Perfection isn’t going to happen so you’re either going to fall short by choice or by being forced through burnout or injury.
While falling short of perfection by choice can feel terrible, injury or burnout is much worse.
Sometimes, choosing in advance to give up on perfection allows us to get as close to perfection as possible.
