As this posts, I’m preparing for what should be a very fun trip.
That’s right, it’s vacation time for me! Don’t worry, I brought my running gear.
Actually, that’s what I want to talk about, though. When on vacation, what do you do with your running? Do you stick with the plan no matter what? Do you not even pack your running gear?
I’d like to suggest a middle route. Definitely pack your running gear but be flexible with your running plan.
Definitely pack your running gear
While vacation may seem like the perfect time to get away from everything, including your strict training plan, hopefully running is something you also enjoy doing. You want to keep doing it even while getting away from all your stresses.
In addition, running is a great way to explore a new place. You can cover more ground than when walking but do so at a closer proximity and more relaxed pace than when driving, allowing you to really take in your surroundings much more completely.
In my opinion, running greatly enhances the experience of the vacation itself as long as you’re not too regimented. Which leads to…
Be flexible with your running plan
While I do think running should be a part of your vacation plan, I do not think it should dictate your vacation plan.
If a workout or two slips by the wayside or you even take an unplanned day or two off, that’s not the end of the world. You are on vacation after all, enjoy it and don’t stress about something that you can still do when the vacation is over.
Remember, your running and your training plan will still be there when the vacation is over. Keep running on your vacation, at least to the extent that doing so will enhance your experience. But don’t stress about specific plans.
Editorial note: Because I’m going on vacation, I will not be posting the usual monthly roundup. I simply didn’t have time to get it done ahead of time and definitely won’t have an opportunity to do so while on vacation.
